Things for Kids to do in Klagenfurt

There’s lots of things for children to do in Klagenfurt, making it a great holiday option.

Klagenfurt Parks and Playgrounds

There are heaps of parks and playgrounds in Klagenfurt, so breathe a sigh of relief!

  • Goethe Park in the ‘left-hand corner’ of the city is a very pretty little park with children’s equipment including swings, balance beams, a kind of chair roundabout, rocking horses, something like mini trampolines (only not very bouncy), and a climbing frame. At the end of the park is a large fountain and pond.
  • Rauscher Park in the ‘right-hand’ corner of the city is quite small, but has a little car and rocking horses for kids to play on.

Europa Park

Europa Park is our favourite! It is well maintained, beautifully green, and has a great play area for children. Europa Park is situated at the very edge of Klagenfurt towards the lake. You could feasibly walk to the park from the city (it’s only 1.5 to 2km) and it’s a really nice walk along the canal, otherwise there's buses from Heilgengeist Platz (10 and 11) that go to the Klagenfurt Strand Bad where you can easily walk from there..

The play area is pretty much opposite the main entrance to the Strand Bad, across the car park. If you see a little pond with ducks and a small café then it’s just to the right of that.

There are two playgrounds, one for larger kids and one for littlies. Slides, rocking horses, a sandpit, pebbles and a pebble bucket and digger contraption, monkey bars, there’s a great selection except for some reason there are no swings… despite this, it’s still really nice. There are a few tables and benches if you’re lucky to score one, and there’s lots of beautiful grass, and shady spots under trees. Bring a picnic rug/blanket if you’ve got one!

Later you can go for a walk to the nearby pond, or along the foreshore of the lake (beautiful). There’s also a very pretty walk along the canal to the southern side of the park where depending on the season you may be able to hire a pedal boat and go along the canal (awesome).

City Arkaden Shopping Centre Klagenfurt

On the lower floor of this shopping centre are two small play areas for children. More suited to young kids, it has a wooden train on one side, and a car on the other. There are little interactive puzzles on the wall and other little bits and pieces to keep young ones entertained.

Kinderwerkstadt Kinderwerkstadt is a great place where you can drop of the kids at short notice while you have a breather or go do some serious shopping. Costing only 2 Euros an hour, your kids are looked after by professional child carers. There’s a whole article about Kinderwerkstadt here
